Do's and Don'ts for Acne
Skin care is essential in fighting with acne along with proper diet and medication. Lets have a look at few of the do's and don'ts for an effective acne care regime:
Basic skin care:
- Wash your face 2 –3 times a day with a mild soap or facial cleanser
- Do not wash your face too often as it will make it dry and exacerbate your acne.
- Properly choose cosmetics for skin as it might enhance acne. There are lot of herbal products in the market which do not have a side effect on your skin
Proper care in choosing moisturizers:
Choose moisturizer that suits your skin type from the wide variety of products available in the market. Might be a difficult decision but if you know your skin type then it would be quite simple. If you have a hypersensitive skin then herbal products are recommended.
Use make-up sparingly:
- Water based non comedogenic make-ups are best for acne infested skins. Avoid heavy makeup as it adds to acne problem
- Facial scrubs should be avoided in an acne infested skin along with all types of alcohol based astringents and face masks as they irritate the skin which is bad for acne infection
Investigate and identify the problem
- Foods are not responsible for acne but consumption of certain types of foods can aggravate acne formation. Identify what types of food do not suits you and aggravates your acne and avoid it.
- Acne could also cause due to food allergies but are quite rare.
- Keep a record of what you eat and eliminate foods that you suspect is enhancing your acne formation
Avoid direct sunlight:
- It is a myth that direct sunlight is good for acne
- Sun could tighten pores, dry up oil glands and temporarily mask acne.
- Direct sunlight is also responsible in damaging follicular walls clogging the pores. This might increase rate of formation of acne.
- Use proper sun screen which are good for your skin and blocks out sun from damaging it.
Avoid playing with pimples:
- It is generally hard to resist squeezing and poking pimples but is very essential.
- Bacteria from the pimples could get into your hands and invade other areas of your face thus leading to more pimples and scars.
Avoid heat:
- Heat could worsen your acne if you are allergic to it.
- Avoid hot compress as it makes pimples sprout to blackheads/whiteheads.
- Get your matured pimples removed only by a professional and do not try it yourself.
