Freckles are flat, small spots of melanin on the skin, develop randomly, and can be caused by too much sunlight. Both men and women get freckles at an equal rate. Freckles are most commonly found on the face, although they may appear on any skin exposed to the sun
Causes of Freckles:
Being over exposed to the sun. Freckles will fade when sun exposure is reduced or eliminated.
- Special cells in the skin produce a pigment called melanin that is concentrated at one spot.
- Freckles are also genetic.
- Abnormal Hormones can cause freckles.
- Fair skin absorbs less UV rays so special cells in the skin produce melanin in concentrated areas.
Symptoms for Freckles:
Some symptoms associated with freckles are:
- Changing of the skin’s shape and color.
- Diarrhea.
- Cramping, abdominal pain, or loss of weight.
- Skin cancer can come from freckles.
- Moles.
- Blood or mucus in fecal matter.
Remedies for Freckles:
- Bleaching Creams: Using hydroquinone acid is one of the best treatments for freckles.
- Cryosurgery: This freezes the freckles with liquid
- Chemical Peels: Using this treatment will remove aging spots, freckles, and fine lines.
- Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL): IPL is the newest treatments found today. What IPL does is it shoots energy to both the epidermis and dermis; as a result the freckles fade away in a treatment or two.
- Tretinoin: Vitamin A helps make freckles appear lighter when used over an extended amount of time.
- Laser Treatment: Laser treatment can be effective but also very expensive.
