Speed Dating Basics

Speed dating is a quick way to hook up with a person of your choice. Aish HaTorah, a Jewish educational network is credited with introducing the speed dating. Inspired by their success, lots of dating companies have borrowed the concept in the US. Prominent among them are 3 minute dates, fast dates, 8 minute dates.

The speed dating sites online organize events, which facilitates singles in your own town to meet up and have brief tete-a tetes with around 6-7 people in one evening! This is usually organized at restaurant, cafe or a bar in the town. To get the conversation going, people participating are given ice-breaking topics to help them out. After the stipulated time spent with one person, which would typically last for five minutes or so, there is an announcement or chiming of the bell by the organizer to move on. The members then are given forms to fill up. In these forms, participants would also be asked, if they would like to meet the person once more with whom they have had a chat. Then, there is brief intermission after 3-4 meetings. Here, participants gather to have some snacks and this provides opportunity to meet other fellow members in who they could be interested. If there is a mutual consent from both the parties to meeting again, organizers inform the participants about it. Email addresses and telephone numbers are given to both the parties so that they can meet up independently.

Speed dating companies have claimed huge success rates at these events. But there are certain rules to be followed at these meets. During the meeting of prospective couples, neither of them is supposed to ask the other for contact information, such as e-mail ID, phone number or business cards. Questions should not be explicit or offensive. Sometimes, one event might not help you in finding the right partner. Do not panic, take your own time and do not be in haste.
